Anal fissure

      An anal fissure is a traumatically induced longitudinal split in the squamous epithelium of the distal anal canal. It typically extends from the anal verge cephalad towards the dentate line. It most commonly occurs in the midline posteriorly, but it can also occur in the midline anteriorly. Anterior fissures are more common in women than men, occurring in 10% of women with fissures compared with 1% of men with fissures [
